Cybercab redesign exposes Cybertruck wiper as engineering failure

Ana sayfa / Cars

Tesla’s bold attempt to simplify windshield cleaning with a single massive wiper on the Cybertruck appears to be backfiring. The so-called “Gigawiper,” once touted as part of the Cybertruck’s futuristic aesthetic, is now under active engineering investigation following widespread complaints and a recent clue from the company’s own design shift.

Ever since Cybertruck deliveries began, owners have flagged major issues with the monowiper. From slush and mud to heavy rain, the single wiper blade often fails to fully clear the glass especially at the edges. One Tesla customer reported the wiper wasn’t cleaning more than half the windshield radius, even after a motor replacement and parking position adjustment.

Tesla’s own service response confirmed it: the monowiper is now officially under engineering review.

Lenovo Watch GT Pro lands with strong features and a low price

Lenovo Watch GT Pro debuts at $130 with GPS, 5ATM water resistance, and up to 27 days of battery life designed for outdoor use.

Adding fuel to the fire, Tesla’s upcoming Cybercab robotaxi was recently spotted with a very different setup. Unlike the Cybertruck, the production-ready Cybercab sports a conventional dual-wiper system with two arms and blades quietly ditching the Gigawiper entirely.

That change says a lot. For a company obsessed with design consistency, swapping a core visual element suggests more than a minor tweak. It points to a likely backpedal on the monowiper approach, at least for future vehicles.

The switch seen on the Cybercab and the ongoing internal review suggest a few possible outcomes. Tesla may redesign the wiper entirely, improving its mechanics and arc. Or, it could abandon the concept altogether and return to a dual-blade system possibly requiring a physical retrofit for existing Cybertrucks.

Either way, Tesla’s silence is growing louder. If the Cybercab is the testbed for what comes next, the Cybertruck’s Gigawiper might soon be wiped off the lineup, literally.
